The WaterBlessing Ceremony continued...

(Rod Num Sang)

Rod Nam Sang is the main event of the wedding. The ceremony shall be proceeded either by the parents of the groom and the bride themselves or by a highly regarded senior couple. The newlyweds shall be sitting next to each other with the groom on the right, facing either north or east, accompanied by the groomsmen and the bridesmaids standing behind them in pairs of two, three, or four. Then, the most respected senior blesses the couple with a white powder stick on the couple’s forehead called “Jerm.”

In the following, the parents or the most respected senior couple shall then present the wedding flower garlands, called “Malai”, around the neck of the couple.

A Malai is a special wedding craftsmanship made with a variety of flowers and flower petals that represent love and beauty in a pattern of chains. The chains symbolizes togetherness.

The parents or senior couple shall then place the "Saii Mongkol" meaning "circle of luck", that the monks have blessed in a Buddhist ceremony, on the heads of the newlyweds. The Saii Mongkol represents that the destiny of the couple is bonded while their individual spirit is maintained from that moment on.

Afterwards, the parents or the senior couple shall use a shell, “Sang”, to pour the scented flower-garnished holy water, "Rod Nam", onto the hands of the groom first; starting from the wrist towards the tips of his hands, then the same blessing goes to the bride. The families and the guests then proceed to bless the wedding couple and pour the water onto their hands individually in the same ritual.
